Back Pain

November 11, 2007 / by cnimri99

Well, my latest venture is back pain.

I originally injured my back three years ago in Montana, shoveling snow (I was too impatient to wait for my hubby to get back from the store). I had trouble off and on, and went to the chiropractor. The last several months I was doing very well.

Just before hubby left for Iraq this last week, it started acting up again. Naturally, some of the stress tension eased up once he left, but it still hurt like crazy. I went to the doc, who gave me more pain pills and muscle relaxers, and I have to go in three times a week for "electrical stimulation" (it's basically a really huge tens unit). This week I'm supposed to see her after the last one, and I figure on asking for a script for a personal unit I can use at home.

It angers me a little bit, because I feel like a total invalid. I can't vacuum or walk the dog, because it's too much pressure on my lower back (where all the problem is). I'm actually looking at paying a friend of mine to come and help me clean my house while I get "fixed" by the doc!

The other problem that exacerbates this, is that I have a bone spur on the bottom of my spine, that pushes on my pelvic bone (right where the two connect). And with the insurance, they won't pay for surgery until I complete a predetermined "process" to show that nothing else works.

Please pray for me to have the patience to not "choke" my doctor or go screaming into the insurance office on post to get this fixed. It's been so terribly frustrating for me, because I'm used to being such an active person. Right now I can't even go visit anyone because I can't drive, for the pain!

Don't choke your doctor--your back will hurt a lot more in jail!!
Take it easy for awhile--I know that drives you up a wall but you don't want to agrevate the back more than you have to--sit in a well padded chair and get caught up on the books you wanted to read but didn't have the time![KISS]

Thanks for the advice. I promise not to choke the doctor! [WINK] I definitely have been catching up on my reading, because that's the only thing I have enough energy for that doesn't hurt me to do!

Are you covered by what we used to call Champus, or free medical care as wife of a soldier? (Don't know what they call it now.) I can't beliecve the government would deplay troops and not give medical care to their dependents!
As a person whose back problems derailed my nursing career, I feel for you so much. And should you have numbness or pain in your legs go back to that doc immediately because spurs could be impinging on a nerve. Thinking of you and please take it as easy as you can. [KISS][HEART][HEART]

Yes, I'm covered on the insurance (they call it Tricare now). My legs hurt a little from the tension in my lower back pulling on my hamstrings. But the muscle relaxers my doctor gave me are helping. I'm not hurting so much now, but very stiff and it's still hard to get up and around much. I've just been hanging around the house, because I still can't do much. Going to the chiropractor helps, though!
