Remembering...........

January 26, 2008 / by cnimri99

Well, a while back I wrote about these young folks these days that are so terribly rude, with their language, awful clothes, loud music, etc. etc.

My dear friend lives on the post, right inside the main gate. She recently got a new neighbor, who's husband just got back from Iraq. She's tried to be friendly and welcome them to housing, as she did the neighbors on the other side when they moved in. Well, that backfired huge.

The building she lives in is a long row of 2 story apartments, built sometime around World War II when the post was first built. So unfortunately you hear every bump and thump through the paper thin walls. Well, when this husband got home, he apparently decided he needed to have his surround sound hooked up to his 56 inch TV. The first day he was back, my friend went over about 7 p.m. to politely ask if he could turn down the sound just a bit, as she was putting her baby to bed. He rolled his eyes and slammed the door in her face, then turned the sound UP!!!!!!!!!

Problem being, his bass was literally vibrating everything in her apartment! There were several days of dealing with Military Police and housing to try to solve the problem, as this soldier was leaving all of these things turned on when not home! And the police and housing kept going back and forth saying it was the other agency's problem to handle.

I am SO thankful at this point that I do not live on post! I would have likely strangled that man, or slapped him really good and hard! I am so astounded all the time at people's rudeness like that. I just do not understand why there is no consideration for the comfort of others, and seemingly no idea how big of a jerk "you" (whoever that is) really are by imposing on other people in this manner!

This is why I work so hard to make my son understand he simply cannot behave this way. I only hope to raise him up right in this awful world we have, and get him to know how to behave and respect people. That's a tall order these days!

It's a tall order, for sure, but can certainly be done.  Whenever I have talked to school staff, church leadership etc., I have been told that both of my kids are really respectful to adults.  That makes me very happy, since I spent a great deal of time teaching them to respect others.
